BP Launch Targetneutral

BP have launched their website to help fight climate change – Targetneutral. According to the site “BP is behind targetneutral because they’re committed to taking action against CO2 emissions and educating the public about what they can do. Even BP’s fuel trucks in the UK are all CO2 neutral. BP makes no profit from the scheme.”

Users register with the site to calculate their CO2 emissions. They can then offset their emissions by paying money to the site. Don’t panic though if you think this is a nice way for BP to increase their profits. Targetneutral is “a non-profit programme. Neither the programme nor BP makes any money from the purchase of emission reductions”.

In truth this is a bit of a wishy washy affair from BP and neither has appeal to anyone wishing to offset their CO2 emissions or provides information about how BP, who given their position as an oil producer could be better advised in explaining what they’re doing (and spending out their vast profits) to help reduce CO2 emissions.
