Barclaycard Breathe to Fight Climate Change

Barclaycard have launched the Breathe Credit Card (14.9% APR Typical Variable – correct as of 9/9/07) as an initiative to help fight climate change. It’s billed as the credit card “that donates 50% of profits to projects that tackle climate change” and Barclaycard intend to make a minimum donation of £1million in the first year. The money will be given to Pure, the Clean Planet Trust to fund government-approved environmental projects.


The card also gives users 0% interest on balance transfers for 6 months from opening an account (2.5% handling fee applies). You can apply for the Barclaycard Breathe credit card online.

Card holders can enjoy special green discounts:

  • Home Insulation: Save up to £50 on home insulation and cut over £300 off your heating bills
  • Green electricity: Get £25 off your first year’s bill with Ecotricity
  • Halfords Discount: 10% discount off Halfords Cycles and Cycle Accessories
  • Green Car Hire: Save up to 10% off the best available rates on Hertz Green Collection
