Carbon Neutral Car Insurance From IBuyEco

July 13, 2007 · Filed Under Insurance

Drivers are being encouraged to buy carbon neutral car insurance from IBuyEco, a new company from the BGL insurance group. The basics of the insurance company are the same: they search a number of insurers, including Norwich Union, Zurich, Allianz Insurance Plc, AXA, Churchill, Fortis, Legal and General, Provident, CIS, Groupama, for the best quote ! Plus they also make it easy for you to offset 100% of your car’s carbon emissions - balancing out the impact their driving has on the environment.

When you buy insurance through IBuyEco they calculate your offset fee based on your car, engine size, make and model. You then offset your CO2 emissions by paying this fee, which then goes to The CarbonNeutral Company who invest in sustainable environmental projects all around the world.

IBuyEco isn’t just about getting green insurance, they also want to provide cheaper insurance so they will look for the best deal for you. Other benefits include guaranteed courtesy car for 7 days minimum, claims repairs guaranteed for 3 years, emergency assistance 24 hrs a day and 365 days a year plus window glass cover - terms and conditions apply.

Offsetting is an ugly word in the fight against climate change and has become as much as a marketing buzzword as “carbon neutral”. It almost suggests that it’s fine to do high CO2 emission activities as long a few quid is thrown in the direction of growing a tree or two! That’s not teaching people about climate change and their own responsibilities! Perhaps it’s better for drivers to consider switching to more energy efficient cars and smaller engines as opposed to paying (in this case) an additional premium to offset their CO2 emissions.

However, again we need to take the positives from these campaigns. It does highlight climate change and bit by bit the message will get across. There’s no doubt that other insurance firms will soon follow suit and offer carbon neutral car insurance and similar green policies.

My name is Sally Rushton and I work for digforfire, a marketing agency based in Sheffield. I hope you don’t mind me contacting you, but putting a post on your blog seemed like the best way to get in touch. As someone with an obvious passion for environmental issues, I thought you (and your readers) may be interested in our latest work for our client ibuyeco - 100% Carbon Neutral Car Insurance.

Climatekids.co.uk is a microsite where real kids get the chance to express their fears and views on climate change. You’ve heard the viewpoints of the scientists and politicians, but it’s really interesting to hear about it from the people it is going to affect the most.

The site has a selection of short films featuring the kids, a quiz to see if you know as much as they do, green tips for the family, plus some information on ibuyeco – the only UK car insurance provider that will offset all of your cars annual CO² emissions.

We hope that as well raising a few smiles, the kids’ message will also make people stop and think about the damage we’re doing to the planet and how it will affect future generations.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the site.
