Save Water With A Water Butt!
If the weather around Swansea during May is anything to go by you may have had a few days this month where it bucketed down! With an exceptionally warm summer forecast due to global warming, preserving rain water is essential for gardeners (and also for those on water meters), especially if a hose pipe ban is enforced. Of course, we could argue that if the water companies actually stopped the leaks then that would solve a lot of problems, but remember being eco friendly and helping fight climate changes is also your responsibility!
Having a water butt is great way to collect rain water - it can be used to water your plants and there are now even devices that allow you to regulate (or irrigate) your garden automatically (which is ideal if you’re off on holiday).
First of all you’re going to need a water butt! DIY stores and garden centres should have them for sale, along with required accessories like a stand and rain trap. If you have a large garden you may wish to invest in a number of water butts which can be connected together.

The most popular type of water butt is the Space Sava (above left), it typically costs around £29 but you made need to purchase a stand and accessories too. If cost is a problem, then you can always collect rain water in dustbin for example? If you’ve got a few extra pounds available though there are more expensive alternatives including the Sack Design Water Butt and Wine Barrel Water butt as shown above. You can also purchase a Well Design Butt and the popular Beehive Water butt too.
These are all available to buy online at Greenfingers. They offer free delivery on all orders for £45 or more. All you have to do is enter the discount code GFM07 at the foot of your shopping basket when shopping online!
