Scientists Urge Caution On Climate Change
In a rare moment of sensibility from the science community, a former President of the Royal Meteorological Society, Professor Collier has warned that a more cautious approach is required with the way risk of climate change is put to the public by other scientists. They say that some researchers make claims about possible future impacts that cannot be justified by the science and these claims are damaging the credability of all climatologists.
The credability of climatologists is one thing, but how the public reacts to the messages coming from the science community is another. On one hand you have some scientists claiming that there’s a Global Warming Swindle and on the other there’s doom and gloom about impending flooding, uncontrollable weather and the end of the world unless we all change our ways!
In part this is also a media issue, with often more emphasis on shallow news like the contents of David Cameron’s Bin, as opposed to practicalities and information that will help the average homeowner understand the current situation. Regardless of climate change arguments, now is a good a time as any to encourage everyone to recycle, save water and conserve energy - and that’s the message the media should be pushing.
