Ecoballs for Eco Friendly Washing
Leave the first response January 28, 2010 / Posted in ShoppingChristmas has come and gone as has New Year, but there’s still time for a belated resolution to keep Fight Climate Change up to date and to be more eco friendly. To kick things off we’re revisiting one of the most popular green products – Ecoballs.
Ecoballs replace the washing powder in your washing machine and give a more eco-friendly way of doing your laundry.

Ecoballs – 1000 Washes £29.95 Ecoballs replace traditional washing powders and soaps used in your washing machine and are reusable for up to 150 or 1000 washes. |

Ecoballs, Pack of 3 £29.95 Ecoballs are a natural, eco-friendly way of cleaning your clothes. With no harsh chemicals they’re perfect for people with sensitive skin. |

Ecoballs £40 Voted one of the Ten Best Green Household Products by The Independent. |

Ecoballs – 150 Washes £9.95 Ecoballs not only save on heavy shopping loads, they are reusable for up to 150 washes (including supplied refills) and cost approximately 8p per wash. |
Prices vary in part because you can buy them in either 150 washes or 1000 washes packs. Obviously a 1000 wash pack is more economical but if you’ve never used Ecoballs before then it may be worth experimenting with a 150 wash pack first.
According to reports they’re 100% hypoallergenic, residue-free and anti-bacterial. They’re also good for people with sensitive skin, so if you’re constantly finding the perfumes in washing powders make you itchy these may well be a viable alternative.
Are they any good?
Ecoballs get mixed reviews – some people find them brilliant whilst others are less convinced. There’s a wide range of views and discussion on moneysavingexpert.com that are well worth investigating if you’re thinking about giving them a try.
Climate Change Lets Sort it Here and Now with Oxfam
Leave the first response October 12, 2009 / Posted in CampaignsClimate change costs lives. And right now, thousands of people are taking action to fight its devastating effects on the world’s poorest people. This October, Oxfam are asking all of their supporters to do one of three things: change what you wear, change what you do, or collect loose change.
All of the money raised through your change-themed fundraising efforts will be going to support their work with communities that are being affected by climate change. For example, if you can get 39 workmates to pay £2 to wear jeans to work, the money you’ll have raised could be used to enable a family to raise their home above flood levels.
If you would like to download their fundraising toolkit, or if you are looking for ideas, tips and inspiration, click here to visit the Oxfam website to find out more.
Oxfam would love to hear from you about your fundraising ideas, if you have any questions or would like to know more about their work, you can call them on 0300 200
1244 or e-mail events@oxfam.org.uk
Thank you for all of your support – together we can really give people hope for, a brighter future!

Radiator Boosters – Energy Saving as Seen on Dragon’s Den
Leave the first response September 30, 2009 / Posted in Fuel BillsWith Autumn and Winter now upon us the central heating will be on and that means concern for many families because of rising fuel costs. Unsurprisingly then one of the most popular selling items currently at eco sites at the moment is a radiator booster. This is an innovative, eco friendly product that uses a small fan to capture the heat that comes out the back of your radiator.
By using a fan to circulate the heat this warms the room faster, saves lost energy and possibly reduces your bills. Although you need to plug the booster in, the manufacturer’s claim that running costs are just 30p (6 hours a day for 6 months). It’s made from recyclable Polycarbonate and can be adjusted to fit large and small radiators.
The product has appeared on Dragon’s Den, but none of the panel decided to invest in David Haydon’s idea. However, the Radiator BOOster is now at version 2 and comes with an automatic thermostat so the fan only works over a certain temperature, so as to improve efficiency.
Cynics may argue that this is yet another energy efficient idea that costs more to buy than to save (although it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than a Wattson!). However, for £20 it could help heat your main room a lot cheaper than say if you’re using an electric fan heater? It’s also had some excellent reviews on eco sites like Nigel’s Eco Store.

6 in 1 Solar Toy – A Great Gadget To Teach Solar Power
Leave the first response September 27, 2009 / Posted in ShoppingIf you’re trying to teach kids about solar power then a fantastic new gadget, the 6 in 1 solar toy, might help the educational process as well as making learning fun. Suitable for children over 10, the 6 in 1 solar toy has no batteries and relies purely on solar power. It can be used to make 6 different toys including an airboat, windmill, puppy, and two different types of planes.

The toy’s motor is powered by the sun, but according to the manufacturers the solar panels can also be charged using 50W halogen bulb (which doesn’t sound that eco-friendly). Eco friendly toys are few and far between, but the 6 in 1 Solar Toy offers kids a bit of model making, creativity and education – it’s a kind of green Lego.
Solar panels do exist for Lego, but we’re not sure whether they’ve made a lot of effort into developing a “green Lego kit” in a similar kind of way to the 6 in 1 solar toy?

Beer Bottle Goblets – Grolsch & Sol Recycled Bottle Beer Glasses!
Leave the first response September 24, 2009 / Posted in Recycling, ShoppingEco gadgets are springing up all the time. Some are useful, some expensive, some ingenious, like the Cambodia Rice Puses and others like the Solar Powered House Number seem to be taking the need for being green a step too far!

Recycling waste into something useful seems to be the best approach when dealing with climate change issues. Rather than create more gadgets or plastic silliness to do something that isn’t needed making use of our waste to reuse rather than dump it in landfill makes sense. And if you can drink beer from such things, even better!
And that’s why we like the Beer Bottle Goblets that are currently available at Firebox. These won Recycled Product of the Year Award 2001 and would make a brilliant Christmas gift idea for anyone. You can get Grolsch Tumblers, Grolsch Goblets or Sol Goblets – and all come in twin packs! They look great too and are made from real Grolsch and Sol bottles.
The only thing you will need to supply is the beer.
